Friday Recipe - Apple Crumble

The apple season is pretty well upon us and we've already had a nice crop of one tree. This is a nice easy one for the whole family.

What you need

For the filling:
1 kg sweet apples peeled, cored and roughly sliced
2 Tablespoons of sugar
30-40gs Butter cut into knobs
1 Teaspoon mixed spice
Grated rind and juice of one lemon
Optionally large handful of raisins

For the topping:
250g Plain wholemeal flour
125g Butter (at room temperature)
1 or 2 tablespoons of sugar
2 tablespoons of rolled oats

What to do

1, Prepare the filling by placing all the ingredients in a suitable oven proof dish and mixing everything together

2. In a separate bowl add the flour and butter and rub the butter into the flour - making "bread crumbs"

3. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well

4. Pour the crumble mixture over the filling.

5. Place in a warm oven (180 C) for 30 - 45 minutes checking after half an hour. When done it should be nice and golden brown on top and the fruit should be just tender.

Serve with cream, ice cream or yogurt.

Enjoy!
